DESTICIM project presents a totally new idea, on a national level; to this date, we are unaware of any research concerning the use of glass waste in cement manufacturing. Our research is relevant because it offers a solution for a stringent environment issue, the increasing growth of glass waste that cannot be re-introduced into the manufacturing cycle. On both national and international levels, waste recovery, sustainable resource management and reduction of CO2 emissions are a global priority. The project aims to develop multidisciplinary research in order to define and validate laboratory technologies that would lead to experimental models with glass wastes. Keeping in mind the sustainability principles, the management of glass wastes recovery may be viable and ecologically effective, only if it is also economically profitable. This project is feasible and is in alignment with the medium-term strategy initiated at European level, regarding the concentration of the research efforts for defining technologies and clean and efficient processes from environmentally friendly point of view, following wastes recovery, reduce CO2 emissions and energetic consumptions – in order to obtain ecological products, environmentally friendly. Therefore, the project envisages the objectives of the Directive 2008/98/CE for Romania: „up until 2020 recycling of 50% of domestic wastes and 70% of wastes resulted from construction and demolishing activities”.
The objective of the DESTICIM project is to validate some products and laboratory technologies aiming to recover glass wastes and use them in building materials, in hydraulic binders (cement). This type of waste will be recovered – as raw material for obtaining clinker and as addition in cement grinding
